How to make money and work at home

After months of searching how to work at home, I have found that there is not a simple solution. Although there are pages of sites claiming you can make thousands of dollars a week, it's not that easy. First of all you have to watch out for all the scams. Many of the so called opportunities really just want your credit card number so they can bill you endlessly for things you may not have been aware of until it's to late. Who has the time to spend fighting with some fly by the night company? If you don't read the find print or the terms of agreement this may be exactly what you have to do. This would be the opposite of what you want to do. Instead of making money, you are fighting to keep your money.
The real key to working from home is to use your common sense. Do you really think you can make $5000.00 a week with little to no effort? If you could, would everybody be doing this?
There are some legit business out there that can help you earn extra money and maybe enough to be considered a full time job. This may take some time to build up the income you may be seeking. However there is no reason you couldn't take on a few options at the same time. Many of the legit work at home jobs only take a small amount of time a day. It is quite possible to work on a few of them to find out what you want to stick with or maybe you might like the variety of several different options going at once. Remember that work at home is still working. Not sitting around waiting for a check to come in. Here are a few popular items that are not considered scams. However that are opportunities that require effort.
ONLINE SURVEYS
I just want to say that these are not scams. However they are not get rich schemes. You are paid a few cents to a few dollars to take online surveys or read emails. This can only take a few minutes a day but it may take a year to get the required amount earned to actually receive a payout. Most of the companies require you to earn $10 -$100 before they will send you a check. You may want to look at this as a getting something free type of opportunity. After all you probably read several emails a day anyhow, why not get paid a little while your doing it? Do watch the compainies you sign up with. There are some they will send you a survey and actually they want you to sign up with other companies or purchase items to get your credit
*My tip for taking online surveys is to have a separate email account. You may start receiving spam from some of these compainies and you would want to fill up your important email account with that. Many companies offer free email accounts. Try yahoo or Google.
MAKING CRAFTS FOR A PROFIT
I am currently signed up with a great company for making crafts. There are several others that I have read about and may be considering. Making crafts for a profit is not for everyone. You don't have to be crafty because you will receive detailed instructions. Mine came on a DVD with a real time example, a slowed down example and an up close slowed down example. This really helped in getting the technique needed. The trick with making the profit with craft company is the marketing. Many of the companies do offer buy back programs. They will offer to buy any approved products back for a set price, which it disclosed when you sign up. The approved part may be what discourages many individuals. Making anything will take some practice and learning your own technique. Just because your product isn't approved doesn't mean you should give up. With any type of opportunity you only get out of it what you put in it. Sending the product in for the buy back options is up to you. You maybe better at selling your product on your own. There are many venues for doing this, such as, flea markets, craft fairs, retails stores or online.
With the craft companies you are required to purchase to material kits from them. There are many scam alerts about paying out money to work from home. However, if they were to send you the material for free, they would all be out of business. To many people would order the material and give up, not sending anything back to the company. The company I am with will refund your material cost when you send in your approved product. This is the only way for them not to get scammed.

AFFILIATE PROGRAMS
Many compainies offer affiliate programs. This is simply placing another companies links or adds on your page. You will earn money if your viewer purchases items from one of your affiliates. The companies that offer affliliate programs is endless. From Amazon to Walmart, Domain registers to web hosters, with all the options available you should be able to find a company you would like to promote. There are also link sharing companies that will provide you with many links to these companies. Clickbank has many items that you can promote and receive up to 75% of the sales. Thats a pretty good cut.
ADSENSE
Adsense is a free program through Google. You can get paid for placing ads on your website, in your blog, or on various article publishing sites. You get paid for each time someone that is viewing your site clicks on an ad to go to someone elses site.
To make income doing this takes a little work but you will be able to create a passive income.
- Find out what you want to write about or what kind of website you want to create. Making it something you know about or are passionate about will help you.
- Use keywords. Think about what someone would type in a search engine to find you. Use these words in your title, your headings and the body of your articles.
- Use google keyword tool to find the keywords that will have good revenue. This tool is easy to use and better yet, it's free
- Update and improve your work as you go. After months of writing you may need to go back and proofread some of your earlier work. You will be developing better skills over time and by keeping all your work up to date you can continue you earn income off of them creating passive income.
- Create links. When writing articles, add links to your other articles, blogs or website. Also create links to other writers that have similar topics and they may do the same for you. Many writers will appreciate your links.
Remember you don't have to be a professional writer. Just write about something you enjoy and it will all come to you.
Like I said before, you can make money working from home. Don't spend alot of time looking for that get rich scheme. Spend the same amount of time and effort actually creating you business and you will see better results.

Common sense article in an easy-to-read format. While I have my own business I always read these because often folks add "virtual assistants" as an easy, cheap way to make money. What they forget to add is you DO need experience and therein lies the problem. You list is honest and informative. Good post.

I cannot agree with you more. I found exactly the same thing when I started looking to make money online. There are so many traps out there that it makes one sick. The so called Gurus, with the exception of about 2, prey on us wide eyed newbies. There are some people who have genuinely imparted good advice to me. From my experience it is important to start with survey companies. They do pay and you can use that money to buy time to do research and to find a place with a great member forum that will mentor you. It does take time to build your Internet business, just as it does in any other field. Thanks for the advice. Any ad that mentions "data entry" or virtual assistant" is definitely a scam, and the money made taking surveys is not even worth mentioning. They say you can make $75.00 by completing a particular survey but you can never get through the darn thing because you never seem to qualify. Later!

This is a well written and informative article. There are many things to consider. If you have a home office and it meets IRS standards, you may be able to deduct a portion of the expenses for running your home. I believe the amount is based on a percentage: your office space vs the total square feet in your home. You also can usually deduct expenses directly related to your business: a dedicated phone line, for example. There may be a catch – I don’t think you’re allowed to deduct for a home office if you even eat, watch TV, or anything not related to the business there. Again, check with your tax preparer. I feel that there are no legit get rich ideas. I think that you have to work for the money you earn otherwise wouldn't everybody be doing it. However I do think that you can achieve an income you can be happy with through "hard work". Nothing in life is free.
All these methods are time consuming and only good for making money after some years.
This article is nice but I have seen that people befool by these kinds of offers. Many people have fallen prey to these offers. But some are real.

I agree Cutedoll. I think it takes a combination of work opportunities to make money in the beginning. It also require you to consider these jobs and put time into them everyday. The income will come quicker if you do this. After you established it can be good passive income without as much work.
Personally I find the survey companies a bit irritating and since I'm from Sri Lanka I don't get much surveys any way.
I have tried all of these ideas, which are good ones, I might add, but never any success. I hope that you find more success than I did.

I have signed up for survey taking just to find out that after spending the time it took to finish the survey, I wasn't eligible for anything after taking it.

Good article Heather. Very helpful. As the saying goes, if it is too good to be true, it usually is. The worst part is that some of the less trustworthy opportunities pretend to be affiliated with legitimate businesses or job search websites. What I have learned is, if they want money from you, or credit card information, forget it!

Very good advice. There are many work from home opportunities that are what i call "Scams" , "Shams" , and "Spams". On the other hand there are many reputable businesses and teams of people that are worth joining. With time and hard work you could achieve $5000 a month. At the pace I am going at my home based business I see making a higher income than that with a few months from now. The only way I am going to get there is through hard work, careful planning, and keeping focused.
I didn't know about the 'making crafts' ideas. Sounds interesting but I'm not too keen on parting with any money up front although I do understand why they ask for it. I've tried the surveys but found the money you get for the effort is miniscule. I think the difficult thing about affiliate income is if you are registered with a few companies you can struggle to make the minimum payout levels if your sales are spread out across a few of them. Working at home to make money is certainly not an easy option but nice if you can make it work.

Great article. I have known some people who have made money within the first few weeks of joining a business online. I would put that down to it being a fluke.
It will normally take anywhere from 3 to 6 months of work part time before the average person could earn a six figure income online. But they must have the right mentor, right business and right attitude.

I searched, searched and searched. Then when I found options that sounded reasonable(not $5000, in one week), I searched for others working with the same company. I found with this company that there were a lot of people that had been doing this for years. Most of the negative comments came from people trying to sell you another program. Their opinions became less believable and I really doubted that many of them have tried the program.
I also found with this company you can actually call the people and talk to them if you have a problem or a question. Actually getting to phone a real person. Amazing.

Good article! I've been a sucker many times. One would think I like it;) It's very hard to generate money by these passive venues. Nothing is free and money just doesn't come straight to you in lump sums just because you want it to. It's tough out there. And here's me, I have skills, am creative and have talent and yet, I don't sell my stuff. I wish I could understand what is wrong with me. I am up against the wall and could help myself, but there apparently is some disconnect. Everyday is a new opportunity to try again, tho. Maybe I'll get mad enough at myself and just do the things already! Pray for me;)

Hi, Great article with lots of information. I can understand what you mean. I was in the same situation 3 years ago until I found a perfect opportunity. I have been working from home for the past 3 years. I run a ebay business from home selling wholesale items and collectibles. At the moment I am making around £1000 a month and slowly progressing.
In the past I have spent hundreads of pound trying to find a home business opportunity and I have tried everything you have mentioned on your articles (MLM, Paid Surveys, Adsense, PPC, etc) and sadly it didn't work for me.
My advise is think before you signup for a program, make enquiries, do your research.

I think your article is very informative. I was offered similar Craft idea by someone, but I found it was a scam.
There are lots of opportunities for making money online, but we have to choose the perfect opportunities. When people search on google with keyword as "work at home", they get lots of scam site. So I will suggest to avoid such sites.
Make money blogging is one nice opportunity for people who want to earn money online.
There are people fortunately hit the bull's eye in making money online. Pretty sure they've been through also lot of trials and hard encounters online. But it's just a matter of determination. I myself also been many times scammed. I gave and provided service virtually, but not paid at the end. But there are also who honestly paying the service made, even if the work is not satisfactory for them.
But up to this time I never quit digging for gold online. I know there is much and much money on internet. Hope to hit also the bulls eye in the future. I will not limit myself to providing services online to capture money, but i have to go on further to what successful people are doing on internet. If they can, all the rest can do the same.
